Let’s face it, the 720p display isn’t going to wow anybody in this age of 2K displays. While nothing to shout about, the display is at least bright and vibrant. Even at a very low brightness setting, the screen is sufficiently bright enough so you hardly have to squint your eyes to make out the texts. We recommend you to tone down the brightness to improve battery performance instead.
Performance-wise, the phone generally runs smoothly but it is not without its shortcomings. We encountered some minor problems with the touch responsiveness in which it is not very responsive to our touch as much as we would have like. There seems to be a slight delay or lag between touch input and response and it is most apparent while scrolling vertically through a page and also through the multitasking page. Fortunately, it does not affect the overall performance too much.
The Valencia2 Y100 Pro comes bundled with Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box and that itself is a plus point. We like the fact that Doogee does not mess with the user interface much and keeps the stock Android look intact throughout the system.
Increasingly popular, the feature that lets you quickly launch some applications by drawing alphabets on a locked screen is also found on this device. Called Smart Wake-up, it works just as advertised but it does require a few attempts to work most of the time.
Bringing things into the next level, there’s the Smart Gestures feature which allows user to interact with the device without even having to lay a finger on it - by waving your hand across the sensor above the display. Activities that can be controlled with it include taking a picture and browsing through the picture gallery as well as app drawer. It’s a nice feature to have but we doubt that many will be utilizing it beyond merely showing it off to impress friends and acquaintances.
Last but not least, the battery is standard fare that should be able to last you throughout the day with moderate usage. Expect a nightly-charging affair.
