HTC late last year announced yet another Windows Phone 8 device, originally codenamed the HTC Accord and aimed at the mid-range smartphone market. The Accord eventually materialised in November 2012 as the HTC Windows Phone 8X, with better specifications and an edgier design than its predecessor the HTC Windows Phone 8S.

With the 8X now available in Malaysia, we try out what looks like HTC’s prettiest WP8 handset, and were pleasantly surprised by the results. The 8X is not the most powerful smartphone out there (or even the most powerful Windows Phone), and there is a noticeable lack of depth to the app store, but it has great design aesthetic, excellent interface and usability, and is strongly complemented by the improvements made to the Microsoft OS that came along with the ‘Portico’ update.
